MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – RENEW Wisconsin announced on Thursday that 13 Wisconsin nonprofits were awarded more than $175,000 in cash awards and solar panel donations from Solar for Good grants.

Solar for Good is a RENEW Wisconsin initiative that supports the expansion of solar power among Wisconsin mission-based nonprofits and houses of worship. The grant funding will allow for the development of over 800 kilowatts (kW) of solar electricity and over $2 million in renewable energy investments.

Some organizations that received Spring 2024 grants to install new solar energy systems include:

  • House of Mercy Homeless Shelter in Janesville
  • Blessed Sacrament Congregation in Madison
  • Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Madison
  • River Food Pantry in Madison
  • Eco-Justice Center in Racine

“Solar for Good’s support will enable The River Food Pantry to install a 112-kW solar array on the southern roof of our new pantry building,” said Grants Manager of The River Food Pantry Ryan Holley. “Incorporating sustainable infrastructure is key to ensuring that The River can serve our food-insecure neighbors and support the shared values of our Dane County community well into the future.”

Since 2017, Solar for Good has awarded grants to more than 200 Wisconsin nonprofits, which has led to over $20 million in clean energy investments across the state.
