Authorities of Tajikistan order to equip all new buildings with solar panels

AKIPRESS.COM – The authorities of Tajikistan have obligated all new and reconstructed buildings to be equipped with solar panels in addition to power grids from April 1, ASIA-Plus reports. The order was approved by the Committee on Architecture and Construction under the government of the country.

The order includes administrative and public buildings, as well as residential buildings, manufacturing enterprises, shopping and service centers, amusement parks, roads and streets, ASIA-Plus notes.

Government agencies will monitor compliance with the order when considering projects and commissioning buildings.

In addition, the document provides for measures to regulate prices for materials and equipment for solar energy systems.

Energy deficiency has been one of the main problems of Tajikistan for many years. More than 98% of the country’s electricity is generated by hydroelectric power plants, about 6.9% by thermal power plants, and 0.001% by solar energy.

Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy previously stated that the rapid melting of glaciers due to climate change is negatively impacting the country’s energy sector. The government intended to increase energy production from renewable sources.
