Brazilian power utility Companhia Paranaense de Energia (BVMF:CPLE6), better known as Copel, has recently started the commercial operation of a 6.4-MWp solar park in Parana.

Located in the municipality of Santo Antonio da Platina in the Norte Pioneiro region, the photovoltaic (PV) plant is expected to be able to generate 13.5 GWh per year, enough to power 450 of the utility’s clients annually.

The solar facility consists of 9,280 PV panels and 80 trackers, covering an area of 12 hectares (29.6 acres). This is the third asset under the company’s Copel Solar initiative.

Copel Solar is a programme where the utility installs and operates renewable power plants for customers under contracts to acquire generation credits, thus achieving savings on their electricity bills.

The other two solar parks part of Copel Solar were put into operation last month. Each of Sarandi and Segredo has a capacity of 6.7 MWp.
