MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A couple living in a senior community on Madison’s far west side have given their community the gift of renewable energy.

John and Margo Hansen, residents of Attic Angel Prairie Point, donated $500,000 to their community to work towards powering all 123 homes with solar energy.

The donation will add to the effort to power AAPP with solar energy, as some residents had previously donated to power their own homes, Housing Manager Janelle Taylor explained. A total of 46 homes are already solar equipped.

“I’m not sure that group of residents knew it at the time, but they created a snowball effect, inspiring others to research and adopt various sustainability practices,” Taylor said. “They even inspired the installation of solar panels on Attic Angel Place (assisted living and memory care).”

With the Hansens’ donation, 20-30 more homes will receive solar panels. Officials say with reimbursements from the Inflation Reduction Act, another $150,000 will be put toward these installments.
