In a pioneering move for the state, Tri Gaz 5 gas station in Crandall has installed solar panels on the roof of its pumping station, making it one of the first in Texas to embrace solar energy. The 49 kW solar array, installed by DynamicSLR, features Enphase IQ8-3P microinverters, optimizing production by placing microinverters under each solar module.
The installation is expected to offset approximately 17% of the station’s electricity needs, generating around 66,359 kWh annually. The project is interconnected with Oncor’s transmission grid and is projected to offset 1,920 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This reduction in emissions is equivalent to driving 4,365,231 miles by car or planting 28,799 trees.
Zak Kassem, president of Tri Gaz 5, highlighted the station’s commitment to sustainability. “Our commitment to sustainability drives us to be pioneers in our field,” Kassem stated. “We take pride in being the first gas station in Texas to embrace solar energy, thereby reducing our carbon footprint.”
Ahmed Barakat, head of operations for commercial and industrial solar at DynamicSLR, emphasized the importance of safety in the installation. “We chose Enphase microinverters to provide clients with the safest solution, and the Enphase App allows us to implement module-level monitoring,” Barakat explained. “This not only addresses their safety concerns but also enhances their overall experience by providing detailed monitoring and analysis at the individual module level.”
The Enphase IQ8 3P inverters offer a three-phase solution suitable for small commercial applications. Each microinverter has a peak power output of 480 W and includes a limited warranty of up to 25 years.
The on-site solar array is expected to save Tri Gaz 5 approximately $3,752 per year, amounting to about $154,685 in savings over the system’s expected lifespan.
