EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) recently inaugurated the Pearl River Solar Park in Scott County, Mississippi, marking its entry into the state. This solar park boasts an installed capacity of 210 MWp (175 MWac), which can power over 27,000 average Mississippi homes annually. The project comprises 400,000 photovoltaic panels, both monofacial and bifacial tracking, contributing clean and cost-effective energy to the state’s grid.
Beyond energy production, Pearl River is set to benefit local communities significantly. Throughout its operational life, it will funnel more than $50 million in payments to local governments, supporting essential services like schools, healthcare facilities, and fire departments. The construction phase itself created hundreds of jobs, with two permanent positions for ongoing maintenance.
From an environmental perspective, Pearl River is expected to save Mississippi over 222 million gallons of water annually and reduce carbon emissions by displacing fossil fuel-generated power. The project reflects EDPR NA’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement. For instance, the development team has been actively involved in initiatives like the Pearl River Clean Sweep and educational outreach programs, demonstrating their dedication to environmental stewardship and community involvement.
Pearl River represents a milestone in Mississippi’s renewable energy landscape, being the largest solar park in the state according to data from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). EDPR NA’s involvement in Mississippi is set to deepen with the development of the Ragsdale Solar Park in Canton, further contributing to local economies and renewable energy goals.
