Hodeida Governor Mohammed Qahim inaugurated a pioneering project to implement a solar energy system at the al-Zababerah water station. The $835,000 project is financed by the German Development Bank through UNICEF.
The solar energy system, comprising 1,440 panels with a total capacity of 960 kilowatts, will generate 2,000 cubic meters of water per hour. Abdulrahman Eshaq, Director of the local water and sanitation institution, briefed Governor Qahim on the project’s completion, noting that the solar panels were installed under institutional oversight, benefiting over 500,000 residents in Hodeida.
During discussions following the inauguration, Governor Qahim received a detailed explanation of the project’s components, highlighting its potential to improve water services and reduce operational costs by transitioning to solar energy. He praised UNICEF’s partnership with the Humanitarian Affairs Branch in executing such projects despite challenges from ongoing conflicts and blockades.
Qahim emphasized the importance of sustainable initiatives, reiterating the local authority’s dedication to prioritizing projects that ensure water access for citizens.
