Greene Co School District Superintendent Gives Update on Solar Panel Project – Raccoon Valley Radio

The Greene County School District continues to work toward construction of solar panels to reduce its overall energy costs.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts says after a meeting with a company, Generac, that does solar panel battery systems and is looking at potential ways of putting all three school buildings on these batteries.

“And just kind of worked me through on what this could mean for us from a dollars and cents standpoint, from an energy use standpoint, and really try to help all three of our schools move away from these demand charges and potentially get all three buildings down to net zero. So I don’t know if that’ll actually happen in terms of getting down to net zero if we do the battery option on all three schools or not. But it was a meeting for them to kind of share that information and share that data with us and continually moving forward.”

Abbotts adds Modus Engineering and OPN Architects are working together to develop a request for proposal to send out to companies for the School Board to approve a manager at risk, that would be in charge of overseeing the design and construction of the solar panels. He notes that after selecting a manager at risk, the Board would then approve a company to design and build the solar panels, which could be the same business that the manager at risk is with, depending on the quotes that come in.
