New Solar Wizard spells out ‘free, quick, and easy way’ to assess solar potential – BusinessGreen

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) has this week launched a new online tool designed to help homeowners, community organisations, and local authorities across the UK evaluate their rooftop solar potential.

Dubbed the ‘Solar Wizard’, the tool can look up any building in England, Wales, and Scotland, based on its postcode and provide a summary of how much energy rooftop solar panels could generate, how much it would cost to get them installed, and prospective payback periods.

The resulting report can be customised based on actual energy usage and includes information and next steps if people want to explore how to install solar panels.

Moreover, the Solar Wizard can visualise solar potential with interactive maps to help parish, town, and larger district, unitary and county authorities understand the viability of solar PV for their buildings.

“Transforming how we generate and use energy is crucial for tackling climate change, but many people don’t know where to start and there is a lot of misinformation and mistrust about solar panels and other technologies.” said Jacob Hall, local area engagement project manager at CSE.

“Solar Wizard breaks down these barriers by providing everyone with a free, quick, and easy way to assess their solar potential right at their fingertips.”

A paid-for service also allows property owners to assess the potential of multiple buildings and run financial modelling to calculate the likely return on investment from solar arrays.

You can now sign up to attend the fifth annual Net Zero Festival, which will be hosted by BusinessGreen on October 22-23 at the Business Design Centre in London.
