PCL Construction has been hired by Doral Renewables to serve as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for a 48-MW solar project in Southeastern Ohio.

The Alberta, Canada-based construction group said on Monday that the contract is its first award from developer Doral Renewables. Under the job, PCL will build the Great Bend solar farm on a turn-key basis, taking care of installing the photovoltaic (PV) panels, a substation and switchyard infrastructure.

To be installed in Ohio’s Meigs County, the solar PV complex will be able to generate around 92,500 MWh of electricity annually, or enough to supply 9,200 homes. It is planned to enter construction this summer.

The building works will open around 200 jobs, PCL said, adding it will partner with local subcontractors to bring the project to life. The Canadian firm noted it will lift its EPC portfolio in the US to over 2 GWp once the Great Bend park is commissioned.
