Philippines’ Agriculture Secretary Calls For Comprehensive Review Of Solar-Powered Irrigation System Projects – SolarQuarter
Agriculture Secretary of the Philippines Francisco Tiu-Laurel has mandated a comprehensive examination of the Solar-Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) projects following reports of neglected and non-operational units received by the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines(DA).
The move comes after former Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol highlighted on Facebook an SPIS in Mlang, Cotabato, completed in 2020 but not turned over to farmers.
Tiu-Laurel instructed regional directors to collaborate with Piñol in evaluating SPIS units nationwide, ensuring transparency and assessing functionality, impact on rice productivity, and reasons for non-operational units. The review aims to enhance the program and address any shortcomings.
