BENNINGTON — On Feb. 27, members of the Bennington Police Department and the Bennington Rural Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Route 9 West in the area of Vishay and a small solar farm. The fire was consuming brush and moved toward the solar farm. Based on the location of the fire and the wind conditions, the Bennington Rural Fire Department requested assistance from the Bennington Fire Department, Pownal Fire Department, North Bennington Fire Department and the Shaftsbury Fire Department.

The fire spread through the field of solar panels. With assistance from other fire departments, the fire was extinguished after consuming approximately two acres of brush. The solar panels will be inspected for damage in the coming weeks, according to a release.

Security cameras captured a male running away from the fire scene. Using the footage, officers identified Nickolas Hollis as a suspect in setting the fire. Officers located Hollis, interviewed him and determined he was the person in the video and that he started the fire.

Hollis was processed at the Bennington Police Department and issued a citation to appear in Bennington Superior Court – Criminal Division. Hollis is scheduled for arraignment on May 13.
