Prevalon Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Power Americas, has partnered with Idaho Power to implement a comprehensive Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), complemented by a durable long-term service contract. This initiative will enhance grid resilience by serving as a net peak solution, bolstering the utility’s capacity to deliver consistent power during periods of peak demand. The service agreement includes maintenance services along with remote monitoring capabilities.

Prevalon’s four-hour battery storage project, capable of storing up to 328 MWh, will align with Idaho Power’s strategic initiative of integrating over 5,000 megawatts (MW) of energy from wind and solar projects over the next two decades. This Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will play a vital role in ensuring the storage of energy generated by intermittent sources for future dispatch. Anchored by Prevalon’s comprehensive “Prevalon Battery Energy Storage Platform,” featuring battery enclosures, inverters, medium voltage transformers, and EMS (Energy Management System), the project will serve as a cornerstone in Idaho Power’s battery storage efforts, significantly advancing its objective of achieving 100% clean energy by 2045. Prevalon’s BESS is custom-designed to meet the utility’s specific requirements, incorporating robust safety and security protocols for reliable operations. The project is slated for full operation by 2025.

“This order is a testament to the hard work of a very talented team that has positioned Prevalon as a skilled and established business partner for our customers with deep project experience in the fast-moving and growing development of battery energy storage,” said Prevalon President and CEO Tom Cornell. “We place high value on the partnering mindset and are looking forward to working closely with Idaho Power as they incorporate our end-end integrated battery energy storage solution into their long-range plans to ensure a stable and reliable energy grid for their customers.”
