A southern York County community is raising concerns over a potential solar panel farm that could spread across dozens of acres of farmland.Cross Roads Borough Council hosted a public hearing on Tuesday about the proposed project on Century Farms Road.”I’m very, very anxious. I’m uncomfortable with the thought that they’re just going to pop up,” Felton resident Krista Green said.A representative from the company pitching the project, Cross Roads CSG 1 LLC, said this is the way to move the area forward into the future.”This is the way the world is going. This isn’t a fossil fuel. This doesn’t have that same sort of negative carbon emissions. I can’t think of a better way to preserve the character of your neighborhood, to give money to the people, an alternative source of funds to the people here,” he said. Not everyone agrees.”Is that the best and highest use of this land? I don’t think so,” said Cyndi Weaver, of Felton.Weaver lives on the property where the solar panels would be installed.”The biggest concern would be the property value. I have a beautiful view every morning that I get up every morning to, and I can’t stand the idea of having them there,” she said. Some residents said they’ve also been told that the energy produced wouldn’t stay here but would help nearby big cities like Philadelphia. For some, it’s more of an environmental concern.”My main concern is fire. You can trace on Google Maps where all these solar farms have caught on fire and caused massive destruction, and I don’t think the town wants to deal with that,” Green said. Further discussion and a potential vote on the project will take place in August.
