JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – TIMET’s facility outside of Ravenswood is under construction, and operations are expected to start in early 2025.

The facility costs more than $500 million, and it is the largest solar power-operated titanium melt plant in the world.

Aaron Valentine is the director of operations, and he said the company is locally hiring and training about 200 people to work there.

“We will take virgin titanium elements, titanium sponge, we will melt them down and re-melt them to create titanium ignite that will be shipped to our mill in Toronto, Ohio, where they will forge and mill and make sheet and plate, coil.”

The titanium melt facility will produce the product used for industrial, aerospace and medical purposes.

“Knee replacements, hip joint replacements it has a low rejection rate,” Valentine said. “Titanium is heavily used in aerospace defense, industrial applications and medical applications.”

The facility is located outside of Ravenswood, and 2,000 acres of solar panels will operate it.

“DHE, they are installing a solar microgrid that will power the melt facility. It will be the largest in the world of its type. It is a real first to have a titanium melt facility powered by solar we are proud of that,” Valentine said.

HR manager Hannah Hesson said training and work for the positions will begin as a person is hired.

“They will onboard and work as we hire them so there is not a delay, they may not be here physically working but they will be at our TIMET facilities learning the material and training,” Hesson said.

The plant will be TIMET’s flagship facility.
