CONOVER, N.C. — Vanguard Furniture has reportedly expanded its solar energy activity with the installation of two roof-mounted solar projects at it’s Frame Plant 2 facility in Conover, NC.
Vanguard Furniture and Pisgah Energy designed and installed the units. Vanguard’s Frame Plant 2 now boasts 438 solar panels augmenting power to the building and generating over 267,400kWh of renewable energy annually for on-site consumption. With the addition of this array, Vanguard now has a total of 1,590 solar panels across three facilities — boosting its annual production of renewable energy from 661,900kWh to over 929,000kWh, company officials said.
The new solar electric system will offset 187 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year, increasing Vanguard’s total annual CO2 offset from 469 metric tons to 656 metric tons.
“We are grateful to Pisgah Energy for helping us reach another milestone in our pursuit of sustainability,” said Andy Bray, President and CEO of Vanguard Furniture. “Taking the equivalent energy use of 128 homes off the grid is significant and we’re proud to be furthering this important initiative.”
In 2021, the FDMC 300 ranked company (#76) company added five new units to its manufacturing plants, which at the time brought the total number of solar panels to 1,152. The solar array will offset over 469 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year. This impact is equivalent to the annual energy usage of 57 homes or driving a 2021 Tesla Model 3 coast-to-coast 1062 times.
Bray said that “environmental consciousness is a key part of our culture.”
Vanguard is a founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council. From suppliers to our manufacturing process, Bray said the company emphasizes reducing waste and using sustainable elements.
“Over the past few years,” he said, “the cost reductions of solar installations have reached a point where it now makes both economic as well as environmental sense. We hope this is the first phase of Vanguard Furniture converting fully to solar power.”
