Madayn Signs Agreement to Establish Solar PV Power Plant in KOM

Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), the technology arm of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), has entered into an agreement with Solar Wadi Company to establish a Solar PV Power Plant with a capacity of 1.4 MW. The project, with an estimated cost of RO 500,000, is set to be installed and operational within a year at KOM. The agreement includes a 25-year contract for the plant’s installation, operation, and maintenance. This initiative aligns with Madayn’s objective to promote clean energy and contribute to Oman’s efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Madayn is dedicated to creating a dynamic live-work-play environment while prioritizing environmental preservation, especially in the industrial sector. In collaboration with its partners, Madayn aims to raise awareness among investors in various industrial cities, encouraging the adoption of safe, sustainable, and innovative alternative energy sources.

DHL Global Forwarding and TotalEnergies Complete Solarization of Seven DHL Sites in Dubai

DHL Global Forwarding and TotalEnergies have successfully completed the solarization of seven DHL sites in Dubai, following the signing of a Power Equipment Lease Agreement (PELA) in 2021. This initiative is anticipated to save approximately 5,000 tCO2e in the first year, which is equivalent to planting 119,000 trees annually. The 7 MWp solar project is set to generate over 11,000 MWh per year across DHL locations in JAFZA 1-4, DAFZA 39-43, DWC AFR, and DWC CFG, meeting 80% of the energy needs for the seven buildings. The solar rooftops, spanning an area of 27,000 square meters, are equipped with more than 12,000 solar photovoltaic modules. Additionally, TotalEnergies has installed solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations at DHL’s sites, aiding the Group’s goal to electrify 60% of its fleet by 2030.

Dubai Advances With 1,800MW 6th Phase Of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), reviewed the progress of the 1,800MW 6th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This phase, based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, involves investments up to AED 5.5 billion and will provide clean energy for approximately 540,000 residences, reducing around 2.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Spanning 20 square kilometres, the 6th phase has achieved the lowest Levelized Cost Of Energy (LCOE) of US$1.6215 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). Al Tayer received updates from Shuaa Energy 4 officials. DEWA established Shuaa Energy 4 in partnership with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), with DEWA holding a 60% stake and Masdar the remaining 40%. The 6th phase employs the latest solar photovoltaic bifacial technologies with single-axis tracking.

Emerge Signs Agreement with AJ Steel Pipes for 3MWp Solar Rooftop PV Plant

Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group, has signed an agreement to install a 3MWp rooftop solar PV plant for AJ Steel Pipes, a leading UAE steel pipe manufacturer and exporter. The decarbonization of “hard-to-abate” industries is a priority identified at COP28 for achieving a carbon-neutral future. Steel companies like AJ Steel Pipes are seeking efficient and carbon-free solutions that combine innovation and technology to enhance sustainability. Located on the roof of AJ Steel Pipes’ facilities in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, the solar plant will offset over 2,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and generate more than 5,000MWh of electricity each year. The project, comprising over 5,000 solar PV modules, will be delivered by Emerge as a turnkey solution, including finance, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance for 25 years.

During the workshop, Dr. Afana delved into the intricacies of concentrated solar power technology, discussing equations, calculations, designs, and algorithms employed in its local development. Jordan Launches Solar Power Initiative For Low-Income Households

In a move to promote sustainable energy and ease the burden of high electricity bills, the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has launched a tender for the installation of solar power systems in low-income households. The initiative targets beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund residing in five governorates: Al-Wusta, Al-Mafraq, Al-Aghwar, Jerash, and Ajloun. These solar power systems, with a capacity of 3 kW each, will be connected to the national grid, potentially offering significant cost savings on electricity bills for residents. “This project is part of our commitment to expand renewable energy use in Jordan and improve the livelihoods of our citizens,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry. “Solar power offers a clean and cost-effective solution, especially for families struggling with high energy costs.”
