CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -Alliant Energy showed off its new solar garden a community solar array featuring more than 10,000 solar panels.

More than 300 customers are part of this project located off 33rd Avenue Southwest.

They pay an upfront subscription for the panels and get credits on their electrical bill every month.

Alliant Energy says the solar garden allows people to use solar panels that can’t be installed on their own property.

“So this is a way for us to locate projects in communities allow customers interested to participate all while contributing to a better environment at the same helping them stabilize their energy bill,” said Ben Lipari of Alliant Energy.

Alliant Energy says this solar garden project should be able to produce energy for the next 20 years.
