German renewables developer BayWa r.e. AG has finalised three solar self-consumption projects for corporate customers in Spain, installing a 2.2-MWp ground-mounted array for US pharmaceutical group Merck & Co Inc (NYSE:MRK) and 1.3 MW of systems for Swedish food packaging company Tetra Pak.

The 2.2-MWp array at Merck’s pharmaceutical and chemical plants in Mollet del Valles, Barcelona, covers an area of 10,600 square metres (114,097 sq ft). The solar farm can generate some 2.8 million kWh of electricity per year, enabling the facilities to meet around 60% of their demand for power, BayWa r.e. said.

For Tetra Pak, BayWa r.e. installed a rooftop solar power system covering three building at Tetra Pak’s plants in Arganda del Rey, Madrid, and a solar carport system at its Seville site.

The rooftop arrays in the Madrid municipality are managed wirelessly from one central point, allowing the system to use the electricity surplus of one building to supply the other ones.

“These projects showcase our expertise and experience in designing, building, and operating PV systems that meet the specific needs and expectations of our clients. We are committed to expanding our presence and portfolio in Spain, one of the most dynamic and attractive markets for renewable energy in Europe,” said Ana Lopez, General Manager Power Solutions BayWa r.e. in Spain.

BayWa r.e. previously installed solar for Tetra Pak’s plants in Thailand, Italy and Vietnam.
