ECoS Registers First Batch Of Contractors For Grid-Connected Solar PV Systems In Malaysia – SolarQuarter
The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has announced the registration of 10 contractors under a new category: Electrical Contractor with Class PV (Grid-Connected) (ECCPV (GC)). This category, established by the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024, aims to regulate the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Sabah more effectively.
The introduction of the ECCPV (GC) category ensures that all solar PV installations are carried out by qualified professionals, guaranteeing the safety and reliability of these systems for users and solar asset owners in the state.
“ECoS extends its heartfelt congratulations to the pioneering individuals who have become the first batch of registered ECCPV (GC) contractors in Sabah,” expressed ECoS CEO, Datuk Ir. Abd Nasser Abd Wahid, during the Licence Certificate Giving Ceremony. The ten contractor companies were carefully assessed and met the required qualifications and experience.
Datuk Ir. Nasser highlighted that this event marks a significant milestone for both ECoS and the renewable energy sector in Sabah, and is crucial for the successful roll-out of solar energy programs in the state.
The “Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic System For Self Consumption Programme In Sabah” (Selco–PV Sabah), initiated by ECoS, allows consumers to install solar PV systems on their premises for self-consumption. This program enables consumers to generate their own electricity, reducing their utility bills, enhancing self-reliance, and promoting the use of clean energy.
“We hope more consumers will participate in this program as it also helps to relieve the current shortage of generation capacity during the daytime,” urged Datuk Ir. Nasser.
He emphasized that ECoS will continue to expand the renewable energy mix and identify new energy sources and technologies for the long term. These efforts are in line with the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-Ramp 2040), launched last September.
