CARTAGO, Costa Rica – Heraeus Medevio recently completed an installation of 1,309 550W solar panels at the Costa Rica site, located in the La Lima Free Trade Zone industrial park, in partnership with Avolta Energy.

This investment will play a significant role in achieving Heraeus Medevio’s commitment to a 50% reduction of global operational greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2045.

By utilizing renewable energy, the Costa Rica site will save 87 tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the first year alone, reducing energy costs and contributing to environmental sustainability in the Cartago region.

“The decision to invest in solar energy was a critical step toward building more sustainable operations. As we continue executing our decarbonization roadmap, we remain committed to continuously optimizing our business practices and identifying new ways to reduce our carbon footprint,” affirms Markus Kriegl, Executive Vice President of Global Operations.

The site’s General Manager, Anna Jansen, adds, “We are incredibly proud to have taken this significant step in our decarbonization journey and are dedicated to reaching our sustainability goals for our team members, partners, and community.”

The new solar panels will enable sustainable business practices now and into the future as the site continues its third phase of expansion, which will add 118,402 square feet (approximately 11,000 square meters) and is expected to be completed later this year.

Heiko Specht, President of Heraeus Medevio, states, “The team’s successful implementation of this renewable energy project is a powerful example of living up to our corporate responsibility for our business, our partners, and within the industry. Reducing our carbon footprint is critical to achieving our vision of improving 100 million lives every year and will help improve lives in future generations.”
