The Greene County Regional Planning Commission approved several revised zoning resolutions including  solar energy systems.

After final discussions between planning commission members and questions from residents that attended the meeting, the resolution changes are as follows:

Solar Farms will be referred to as Solar Energy Systems and would only be allowed on brown fields, such as a landfill, that are zoned as M-2 High Impact Use. According to the resolution, the High Impact Use district was created for uses with the potential to negatively impact the air, traffic, noise, odor, safety, or vistas in the community.

There would be a 500 ft. setback from the neighboring property line. Personal use for homeowners that want solar panels are permitted, as long as they are roof or ground mounted.

The resolutions will be brought before the County Commission on March 18th for final approval.
