MADISON (WKOW) — The Badger State is getting money from the federal government to help people put solar panels on their homes. Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Wisconsin is receiving more than $124 million in federal grants.

The money comes from the Inflation Reduction Act and is part of $7 billion in grants for solar installations President Joe Biden announced to start the week.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is receiving $62,450,000, and the Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association, which is headquartered in Wisconsin, is getting $62,330,000. The EPA said money will go toward developing long-lasting solar programs for low-income and disadvantaged communities.

WEDC will use its grant money to make sure people participating in the Wisconsin Solar for All program have little to no up-front costs. The overall goal is to reduce household energy bills.

The Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association will use its grant money to benefit 35 tribes in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.
