Argos residents argue against zoning changes for large solar systems – WSBT-TV

A “not in my backyard” fight is building traction in Argos.

Residents gathered Tuesday night to share their opinions on more solar panels coming to town.

Town leaders are looking at making changes to zoning ordinances to allow this.

But people who spoke on Tuesday night say they’re worried about exposure to potential toxic chemicals, the impact on wildlife and fear of solar farms being abandoned.

“If it’s forced and I gotta have something next to me. I don’t want it right up against my property lines. I don’t wanna see it. I don’t wanna hear it and the potential for all of those things is pretty great. And I thought this community was about farming. Why waste farmland for something like this?”

Commissioners assure the public these potential changes will be an ongoing discussion.
