CLYMER, N.Y. – Members of the Clymer Town Board, during their Tuesday meeting, postponed voting on two separate solar projects: one on Upper Hill Road being proposed by Renewable Investment Corp., or RIC Energy, and a second on Clymer Hill Road by Clean Choice Energy.

Town Supervisor Brian Willink said RIC Energy has asked for another month’s extension to see if they can amend the project to align more closely with the setbacks established in the town’s solar law.

A representative from Clean Choice was present at the meeting and stated the engineering firm has some concerns, but none of them are related to the requirements for a special use permit.

Willink noted in an interview following the meeting that the board is waiting on some visual aid renderings from Clean Choice, adding that the ball is in the companies’ courts at this point for both applications.

“It just depends on how much time it takes for them to comply with everything we’re looking for,” he said.

Regarding a battery storage law, the town is waiting on a model law from the state to use as reference when drafting a local version. In the meantime, a hold has been placed on any applications for the construction of battery energy storage facilities within town limits.

Willink noted that a water project is starting to move forward. A committee needs to be formed for making decisions about how much of the system to replace, what types of meters to use, etc. The next step will be to select an engineering firm for designing the project.

Additionally, a sidewalk project is out for bid. Bids will be opened at an April 9 monthly meeting.

Budget officer Reilly Enlow stated the town is at 58.28% of its revenue budget for the year, which she said is a good place to be. The town has also surpassed 20% of its projected expenditures for 2024.

“That’s a little bit high – it should be around 16%,” Enlow said.

Also discussed was the development of a comprehensive plan, ongoing  IT upgrades and researching the possibility of holding movie nights in the newly renovated park area this summer.

Town board meetings take place at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the highway department, 8026 Route 474, Clymer.
