Scientex Berhad Expands Renewable Energy Initiative in Collaboration with Solarvest Holdings Berhad – SolarQuarter

In a significant move towards sustainability, Scientex Berhad, a global packaging manufacturer and leading property developer, has announced a substantial expansion of its renewable energy efforts in partnership with Solarvest Holdings Berhad. This collaboration aims to deploy a large-scale rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system project across Scientex’s facilities in Malaysia.

Since 2022, Scientex has been actively integrating renewable energy solutions into its operations as part of its carbon footprint reduction initiative. With successful initial implementations at two manufacturing plants in Selangor and Perak, the company is now scaling up its efforts.

Under the new collaboration, Scientex plans to install solar PV systems across 10 key manufacturing plants nationwide and its headquarters, in partnership with solar energy solutions provider Solarvest. The project, scheduled to commence in May 2024 and expected to be completed by January 2025, aims to generate enough renewable energy to offset approximately 14,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) annually.

By January 2025, more than 80% of Scientex’s manufacturing facilities in Malaysia will be powered by renewable energy through solar PV systems. The company remains committed to further expanding its renewable energy footprint, with the ultimate goal of achieving full coverage across all facilities, driving towards a sustainable future for its operations.

Mr. Lim Peng Jin, CEO of Scientex Berhad, emphasized the significance of this nationwide solar project in reducing the company’s carbon footprint and reaffirmed Scientex’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) leadership.

In response to the collaboration, Mr. Davis Chong Chun Shiong, Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Solarvest Holdings Berhad, lauded Scientex’s commitment to renewable energy, citing it as an exemplary model for the manufacturing sector. He highlighted the importance of businesses reducing their environmental footprint, particularly through the adoption of carbon-free renewable energy solutions like solar power.

This collaboration between Scientex and Solarvest not only aligns with the national energy transition goals but also positions Solarvest as a key regional clean energy partner for multinational corporations, leveraging Southeast Asia’s burgeoning solar energy market.
