A clean energy company has commenced the construction of a solar energy facility in Shabwa, Yemen, as a gesture of goodwill from the UAE to the Southern Governorate.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility, the third of its kind provided by the UAE to Yemen, took place after officials from the local authority in Shabwa signed the site handover documents with the project’s implementing company, “Electromeca International Projects.”
According to a statement by the Shabwa local authority, the solar power generation facility, now under construction, will have a capacity of 53 megawatts, equipped with a night storage system, a conversion station, and high-voltage lines spanning 19 kilometers with a capacity of 33 KV.
The statement highlighted that the solar energy facility is being presented as a special gift from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to the people of Shabwa Governorate. It emphasized that the facility will serve as a model for renewable energy projects in Yemen, encouraging the development of similar initiatives across the country.
Salem Al-Nasi, Assistant Undersecretary of Shabwa Governorate, expressed gratitude on behalf of the local authority to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the UAE government, and its people for their continuous support. He lauded the project as a testament to joint cooperation and coordination, aimed at alleviating citizens’ suffering and achieving sustainable development in Yemen.
Al-Nasi urged the implementing company to ensure timely completion of the project while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Engineer Nashwan Al-Sagheer, representing Electromeca International Projects, appreciated the cooperation of local authorities and confirmed that work has commenced on-site. He assured that the company is dedicated to completing the vital project for Shabwa Governorate as per the specified timeframe and standards.
The construction of the Shabwa solar station underscores Yemeni authorities’ commitment to finding sustainable energy solutions and strengthening cooperation with friendly nations like the UAE to foster sustainable development.
